Manager – Technical Renewables

Reporting to Chief Technical Officer

 

Position Purpose
Engineering & Design: Lead technical team for site screening, initial layout design, selection of critical equipment and contracting all the site studies. Review the site study report from consultant and provide feedback. Evaluate and optimize technology and layout options for the rojects. Review and approve manufacturer / subcontractor/ vendor techno commercial offer. Assist in developing and updating AMEA’s annual and long term strategic renewable energy business plan. Knowledge of Project agreement like PPA, EPC and O&M. Coordination and communication with internal and external customers/ suppliers to resolve techno/commercial issues.
Responsibilities

Engineering & Design: Lead technical team for site screening, initial layout design, selection of critical equipment and contracting all the site studies. Review the site study report from consultant and provide feedback

  • Lead and support the TD team for carrying out site screening assessments including but not limited to Africa, Middle and Asia regions and identifying potential wind and solar energy assets for development.
  • Lead and support the TD team in performing and packaging projects’ technical feasibility studies
  • Perform technical due diligence assessments
  • Build and maintain relationship with consultants, EPC contractors, technology providers, OEMs, Lenders and project affected communities.
  • Lead project through various stages of development like resource study, feasibility study, design and EIA, agreements and applications, negotiate techno-commercial terms of the PPA and other project agreements, detailed studies, finalization of procurement, EPC, O&M / LTSA and Project Financing agreements.
  • Prepare budget for technical studies
  • Effectively manage preparation of required technical input and management of technical operations for several renewable energy projects concurrently to time and budget constraints to deliver these projects.
  • Coordinate with internal legal and financial team during the development process for the preparation of various document and model reviews.
  • Assist in Lenders and investors technical due diligence process.
  • Prepare technical and non-technical project reports for internal or external inquiries when needed.
  • Monitor and if possible supervise all the above functions for Co-developed / Co-invested projects with other lead developers.

Evaluate and optimize technology options for the projects:

  • Evaluate and optimize solar, wind, hydro electric and storage technology and associated balance of system components most suitable for the project.
  • Evaluate and optimize the plant layout for better EYA and plant maintainability

Review and approve manufacturer/ subcontractor/ vendor technocommercial offer:

  • Should be able to review the offers from key component supplier and preparing comparative statement
  • Review and finalize the EPC and other subcontract offers
  • Should have good understanding of Project agreements like PPA, EPC and O and M

Assist in developing and updating AMEA’s annual and long term strategic renewable energy business plan

  • Maintain knowledge of renewable market trends, innovation in technology and electricity and related solution requirement of various countries.
  • Keep abreast of cost curves and improvements therein to select the most optimal technology for AMEA projects.
  • Provide vital inputs in relation with the development, construction and operations of various technologies in terms of natural resources, cost, feasibility etc.
  • Forecast, build and develop human resources in the technical team as per strategic business goals / plans
  • Assist in development of framework, tools for assessment of identified projects; follow up through maturation and final investment decision.
Person Specification
 

Experience Requirements

  • Successful experience of at least 10 years in the development, of renewable energy projects
  • Strong experience in Solar and Wind resource assessment, screening and initial plant design etc
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • From a consultancy or EPC business background
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Masters in renewable energy will be an advantage
  • Project management certification
